Hà thủ ô or Fo-Ti, or Ho Shou Wu translates to roughly “Mr. Ho’s black hair”. The name comes from a legend that an impotent, elderly man with gray hair stumbled upon Fo-Ti and consumed it; thereupon, his hair turned black and he was able to father a child.
