Postinor 1 – Oral contraceptives.
Postinor 1, whose main active ingredient is levonorgestrel, is an emergency contraceptive pill that can be used within 72 hours after unprotected intercourse or if the current contraceptive method is ineffective.
Postinor 1 prevents approximately 84% of expected pregnancies when taken within 72 hours (3 days) of unprotected intercourse. While Postinor 1 does not prevent pregnancy in all cases, it is important to note that the sooner you take it after unprotected intercourse, the more effective it is (it is better to take it within the first 12 hours than to wait until the third day).
Postinor 1’s mechanism of action is explained as follows:
- Stop ovulation;
- Prevent fertilization if ovulation has already occurred;
- Prevents implantation of a fertilized egg into the uterine wall;
- Postinor 1 terminates pregnancy before it occurs. If you are already pregnant, the pill will no longer be effective.
